The Olympian Gods

Portrayed by

(2012) -

Aphrodite was the goddess of love and beauty. She was married to the smith Hepaestus, but she really loved Ares, the god of war. Aphrodite was the most attractive goddess on Mount Olympus. Her symbols are the seashell and the mirror. Her sacred animal in the dove. Every once a year, she would dive in the ocean she came from. There are two forms of Aphrodites birth, The first one being that she was created from the foam of Uranus' body on the ocean and floated to the shore on a scallop shell. The second being that she is the only daughter of Dione, titan of the oracle of Dodona, and Zeus, god of the sky.

Zeus feared she would cause war between the Olympians, so he gave her to Hephaestus as a wife. Hephaestus was overjoyed, so he made her matchless jewels and a magical girdle that made her even more beautiful than she already was, which was unwise of him. Aphrodite was vain, however, and disliked his looks, but enjoyed his gift's, though she'd much rather have Ares for a husband. She has no children with Hephaestus but many children with Ares. Hephaestus was constantly trying to capture Ares and Aphrodite together and show it to Zeus.

1981 Aphrodite[]

In the original movie, she was played by Ursula Andress and is the one to curse Medusa.

2010 Aphrodite[]

This factor changes in the new adaptation. In the 2010 movie, the writers stayed with the myth having Athena curse Medusa, also, Aphrodite is portrayed by newcomer Agyness Deyn, but still only has a visual presence.
