She is the protector of the young, and woman who chose chastity. She also presides over childbirth, which may seem odd for a virgin, but goes back to causing Leto no pain when she was born. Through her association with the moon, she became related with Hecate. The cypress is her tree, and wild animals are sacred to her, especially the deer and bear. |
